Jay Torioka serves as Senior Project Estimator for Metzler Contracting. Born and raised on the Kona coast, Jay joined Metzler Contracting in 2008 and maintains a customer oriented management philosophy, which enforces his guiding principles of teamwork, quality control, safety, effective communication and mutual obligation to his project team members. Areas of expertise include construction & job cost analysis, cost value engineering, design-assist conceptual cost development, precedent diagram & CPM scheduling and work flow planning.

Jay served as vice president of a luxury residential contractor on the Kohala Coast for 10 years prior to joining Metzler Contracting, where he was responsible for all estimating functions and management of 20+ major construction projects including commercial tenant improvement projects for luxury resorts and national development companies. Highlights include earning a Hawaii Building Industry Association Grand Award (2003 Commercial Division) for a Centex Homes sales center tenant improvement and has had numerous projects featured in national design and construction trade publications.

Prior to returning to Kona in the mid 90's, Jay worked in project business management functions for 2 national construction companies in Honolulu. Heavy civil & mechanical construction projects include the H-3 Windward Viaduct, H-3 Windward Tunnels and H-3 Windward Inter Change for a joint venture partnership (SCI/EE Black JV), Kailua, Sand Island & Honouliuli Waste Water Treatment Plant Additions.

Jay obtained his BBA/Finance degree from the University of Hawaii in 1984 and also earned continuing education credits from its College of Engineering (construction management, scheduling/planning and estimating).
